Really?? I am a "Love the OT and don't really care for much else" guy, and I think it's the best by a long shot! I also think Ahsoka vs The Magistrate (whilst not a lightsaber v lightsaber fight) is done VERY well Saga - Here is my unorthodox Star Wars opinion: change my mind! (5)

Ray Park had the athleticism and martial skills to make the 3-way TPM fight truly impressive. That was the apex of PT saber choreography. Later duels tried too hard to top it and couldn't, and ended up just looking silly and over-the-top. None of the PT had the dramatic weight of the OT duels. Even the TFA saber duels had me more involved than anything in the PT; Kylo, Finn, and Rey all looked far more determined to actually hurt each other than any of the PT ballet scenes.

What I find very odd is Dooku wounds Obi-Wan in AOTC, but then goes for a killing blow, but only wounds Anakin on purpose. Do you think Dooku had orders from Palpatine to not slay Anakin?

While I enjoy the duels of ROTS, I will admit that having so many of them diminished the tension. Normally there is a build up to one duel, one that is crucial to the plot and characters & their development. ROTS should have had only the duel between Anakin and Kenobi on Mustafar, making the audience wait to get to their grand Battle of Heroes, we’ve waited to see since ANH. Instead we have so many other duels, and worse, the Yoda vs Palpatine Duel interrupts Anakin vs Kenobi, taking you out of the emotion of it.

I love the duel between Palpatine and Windu, Yoda and Palpatine, and Anakin and Dooku, but too many duels oversaturated the film. Dooku should have been defeated in AOTC, while the only villian to duel is Vader in ROTS.

Well reading through the last few pages it seems like this is an unpopular opinion:

ROTJ is the most perfect ending to a saga of films ever. While I can appreciate peoples gripe’s with the film itself, the way it ends is absolutely faultless.

Oh and Anakin > Sebastian Shaw

^I agree the RotJ ending is great, and definitely my preferred ending for the saga.

''Anakin > Sebastian Shaw'' though... doesn't make sense, unless you think Shaw's performance as Anakin didn't count for some reason.

Really. I am a "love the original saga guy" but I strongly prefer the duels of AOTC and ROTS to anything else. Honorable mention to ESB, though, for the manner it uses the environment in addition to the swordplay.

He said a main character, not the main character. Obi-Wan was part of the "PT Big Three", and one of the two supporting leads alongside Padmé.

I'd go so far as to say that Jedi is one of the best science fiction fantasy action adventure films of all time, most films can't hold a candle to it. The ones that can just happen to be the 2 films that preceded it in the trilogy. Nothing in the SW film saga made since 1983 has been better than it IMO. That may also be an unpopular SW opinion.

Agreed! ROTS just tops it for me, but I saw Jedi live in concert recently and the whole experience did make me question whether it is actually my favourite

I just find that the ending, seeing Anakin burning and the celebration music after gives a real chance to evoke emotion and think about all of the previous films and series. The tragedies and turmoil that so many characters have been through, the sacrifices of people like Kanan and Ezra, the many innocent people that have died, the journeys of Anakin, Obi Wan, Master Yoda and Luke, it all just comes flashing by and you’re left feeling at peace knowing that balance has been restored in the galaxy. It’s perfect

Regarding Jedi as a whole, it's the most paradoxical Star Wars film for me. As a saga ending/installment I do think it's underwhelming overall. As an 80s SF action film, it's an absolute classic and a nostalgic favorite.

To me, the forest with its teddy bears is the perfect ending place to the saga. That's where the Force rests. Life rich in midi-chlorians triumphing over technology.

In Rogue One, Tarkin made one mistake: he underestimated Krennic’s idiocy. Apparently Krennic is so terminally stupid that he needed this spelled out to him:
“The significance of the location at Scarif is that the Death Star plans are there. Chances are the Rebels want to steal it and find a weakness. Your priority right now is to prevent that at all costs. I suggest you destroy the plans immediately. It’s perfectly fine if you need to destroy the entire building along with it, as the Death Star is more important.”
Tarkin should have sent this message to Krennic right after receiving the message informing him of the attack.

The Phantom Menace feels nothing like Star Wars, remove lightsabers, and Yoda, and it could just be some Kabuki play.

I cannot agree with that either meant as TPM not feeling like the Star Wars universe or not feeling like the movie Star Wars, I think it very clearly has the same style and is referencing the same things, space opera and classic period pieces

and there are many characters, devices and vehicles taken directly from the original Star Wars in the background aside from lightsabers and Yoda

You know what? I kind of agree. TPM is over 20 years old now, so the visual aesthetic and tone has been woven into the overall SW fabric. However, when I first watched the film, I was struck the movie felt a lot "softer" and more "earthy" than previous SW films. I am looking for a better descriptors but that's as close as I can get right now. If the OT felt like Rock N' Roll, the PT felt like a more refined style of music.

if you want to talk about SW movies set primarily 'Earth like'' it's the last 5 Disney films.

They didn't even make the effort to make it look anything like the GFFA outside a few aliens that suit Dr. Who more than Star Wars.

That's my unpopular opinion of the day over with.
